It does, if other things are set up correctly.  Are you using

* DJGPP v2.02?  If not, upgrade, or at least set LFN=Y in your
environment.
* on Windows 9x?  If not, read FAQ section 8.2 (which discusses this
problem in another context), and reinstall with a non-LFN unzipper
(unlike Winzip).
* without LFN=N set in your environment?  Don't do that.

Failing all of the above, post your AUTOEXEC.BAT, OS info, and the
output of SET.
