After what seems forever, I finally got my MAKEFILE to do exactly what I
wanted it to do...  Put intermediate and final files in certain
directories.  Of course this wouldn't have been possible without the
help of this wonderful ng (I'd be lost without you guys).  I send out my
thanks to everybody in this ng.  Please take a minute off and give
yourself a pat on the back...
