It doesn't tell me the DOS version. It says:
D:\r>ver

OK, I tried it from Notepad.  Same behavior.
Also, why would djgpp be sensitive to it and not lcc?
The extra end-of-line copy from DOS is known (and at least deterministic)
behavior, I believe.
