I don't know about the original poster, but that's exactly what *I* am
looking for.  Any sort of code example that would serve as a tutorial,
without the telnet/terminal handling baggage.

I am wondering if it is possible to use it to initiate a secure https
connection too, and how that might be done, for simple outputting and
getting of text data.
