Alternatively, append "NUL" to the list of the file names you submit to 
Grep, and it will turn on the line-numbers output (that's what -H does)

Or, you could use Emacs, which already has an interface for ID-utils (and 
for Grep, and for Diff, end...) and comes with a tagifying program that 
understands almost any programming language on Earth. ;-)

This is not true.  The `mkid' program that builds the data-base *is* 
language-sensituive, and so the symbols in the data-base are C symbols, 
not simple strings.
