Please don't give incorrect information.  Saving it as `greet.cc' will
make the compiler think it is a C++ file, and it will compile it as
such.  The source in question is not C++, and if the poster had
continued to use .cc, he would have eventually run into one of the
myriad incompatibilities between C and C++.  On a more basic level, it
also wouldn't solve his immediate problem (for which several solutions
have been suggested by others).
