Unless I'm mistaken, VDISK forces a different method of allocating
extended memory.  This might be an explanation for the problems you
had.

Why did you put the swap file on a virtual disk?  The swap file is
needed if you don't have enough physical memory for your programs.
Why does it make sense to use up some of that memory for the swap?
