I am currently working on a project which will involve programming
various animation and sound routines. These routines are currently far
beyond my capabilities, however, the project will not work without
them. I would therefore appreciate ANY help with the following four
problems. Source Code solutions to the following problems would be
great but any other information about these topics (or web addresses)
will also be of use.

(I use the DOS C compiler DJGPP)

Here goes:

Problem 1:
The project will involve the playback of MPEG video. I have managed
to get hold of large complicated documents about its format, and
limited source code which deals with limited MPEG playback. However, I
need complete, non limited source code or information on MPEG playback.

Problem 2:
As above, but with the AVI file format. I understand there are
copyright restrictions on this format?

Problem 3:
I have an ESS Audiodrive 16bit soundcard, however my sound player
routines will only play back 22khz or lower sounds. This happens even
when I give the port involved with playback speed its maximum value
(255). I have reached the conclusion that this is because my source
code detects the card as a basic soundblaster with a maximum playback
frequency of 22khz. So, how can I playback 44khz sounds in this
situation? Do I need to send the frequency value to a different port?
I realise that the solution to this may be card specific.

Problem 4:

I also need information and/or source code which compares two wave
files and gives an output value which represents the chances of the
the two wave files being the same word. Any other information on
speech recognition would also be helpful.

Anybody who can help me with the above problems, please send me an
e-mail or just leave a newsgroup reply.

Thank You

Paul Costello
