Hello all,
I am quite familiar with DJGPP and C but I would also like to get into
assembly..
Now, I don't mean huge apps in asm but some really tight routines and maybe
some hard-ware level programming (devices).. I've done quite a lot of
assembly programming in DJGPP but not full-apps.
I downloaded NASM and haven't played with it much... but I read it only
support 16-bit DOS and I don't have any interest in Win32 programming other
than the occasional VB program..
I really want ALL of my code to be 32-bit (thanks DJGPP!!!)
So, should I:
1> Use NASM with maybe a DOS-Extender??
2> Use all DJGPP in-line assembly??
3> Use some other application other than the previous two??
Keep in mind that I love the price tag on DJGPP so buying a $300 Super-Duper
Assembler is out...
Thanks

PS->
I am not trying to start some kind of flame war or argument, but I must
tell someone this:
Couple weeks ago, I was in the #gamedev channel on mIRC (cant remember
DalNet or EfNet) and I was watching everyone talk about AI, etc... Now the
topic line said nothing about certain platforms (Mac, Dos, Unix, Win95, etc)
It simply said "Game Programming" There where about 4 ops in there, btw.
So, I popped the question, "Does anyone here use DJGPP?" One guy said,
and I quote, "No, we are real programmers"... then another op said, "Yeah,
get with the time and get Direct X"
Then they BANNED me!!!!!!
So, being very pissed off, I logged off, dialed with a friend's account
(AOL) and went back into that channel and gave them the 'cussing' of their
life!! I basically told them that I was programming when their parents
where changing their diapers and it is people like me that started things
like Direct X (by that I mean people who know the hard-ware and are familiar
with VGA programming)...jeesh, snot-nosed kids who know a little VB and DX
and they think they are top-dog..
Oh well, I am SORRY to ramble like this...I have wasted a lot of band-width
mumbling about my personal problems but I have been steaming for about
weeks...
Sorry again...
-Chuck
