Would you care to explain why?  What is the importance of how the DIR
file is structured, anyway, since typing "m TOPIC" will go to that
topic no matter where its item is in the menu?

Please post the exact error message(s) that you saw.  Please also make
sure you run the latest info.exe from txi312b.zip.  That version works
for me on DOS and Windows 9X alike.

The old file cannot be kept verbatim, because some items need to be
added to it due to recent developments, new ports, etc.
