This is probably because you unzipped with LFN's, but didn't set
NameNumericTail=0 in your registry. You will see files ending in
~1.el[c] in your lisp-dir. This problem is explained in the FAQ,
follow the directions in section 22.18, delete the emacs files, and
reinstall emacs.
