Well, it just says patch v2.1, not gnu. Maybe that's the problem although
i don't see where the "alien" patch might come from.  Maybe one of those
relics wich are strewn around my HD. I'll go and download that, togetther
with the latest version of gcc.

Well, in that case, chances are it's either a very old and outdated or an
old dos patch. I'll go and get the new one right away and see if it works.
