I too quickly deleted the inquiry with the subject "OS" because it looks
like an AWESOME undertaking, sorry.
A couple years ago I installed OpenDOS (a free operating system) on my 386.
It works real good and has some features that tie right in with DJGPP work.
But I never had the nerve to put it in my 486 because I'm afraid my
Microsloth applications would not be happy with it.
The source code may now be available for this OS and be free. Why not get
this code (if it is free and available) and get an idea of how an OS is put
together? Complying with all the restrictions and intentions of the
creators of this OS would still give one plenty to work with, and as I
understand it, they would like to have your input.
If I ever get full-time access to a new Windows 95/96/97/98/99???? machine
I will put OpenDOS on my 486 and try to go all the way with it and see what
happens. I have no interest in DESIGNING an OS, but I would like to see
some alternatives to IBM PC DOS 7 which I now have. I hope to try Linux also.
Good luck on designing a new OS. You are a hero.
