Now that you have send a million of mails with this subject I will tell you
my opinion.

I think that make the things by yourself is important and useful because
forces you to learn and understand new things. But it is very unuseful "try
to reinvent the wheel". If all of us try to make all by ourselves, today
only should be one thing with many versions of it.

In the work is the same; make software to a company is not the same that
talk with you, they use to ignore all about -the art of- programing and they
only want the program, as fast and as cheap as they can. on the university
is the same thing, you have less than a month to create a project, you
should not waste time with user interface ( refrerring to the useful Allegro
GUI ).

But you will not learn if you only group high level things, you are not a
C++ programer if you add the "Quake_Monster" object to the "Quake_Scenario"
with "Quake_Music", that is children's game, but it is a good begining to
understand the "Quake_3d_machine" at whole.

That is why I know the importance of the hobbies, I have learned much more
programming in my home like hobby than in the university, there I just
learned how to be boring, in my home I have created programs that I want
with things that I did not know, but I learned ( off course with my DJGPP
mail list friends ;o) ).

Is true that everyone of us wishes to create a better version of any
program, I mean, I am sure that the friend that started "allegro == or !=
programming" wishes to have ( or already has ) a much better version of
Allegro, but it is not possible to all of us, I think that this is not the
point, I think that we are here to program together and "improve"!, if you
are selfish, you are not GNU.

I want to end remarking my point about that there are sometimes that use
another's software ( eg. allegro ) is useful when it helps you ( eg. helps
you to not waste time with GUI ), but this is not a reason to stop of
programming or to learn. and like things like this are opinions, I think
that there is no reason to be angry for that.

I think that all of you can be very good programmers with or with out
allegro libs.

have several nice days.
