Does RHIDE's Info reader support compressed files? If not, it might not
be a good idea.

In any case, why won't you leave it to the user to decide whether to
compress the files or not? The converter doesn't have to do it. If
somebody wants to use compressed files, they will need to install gzip
anyway, but somebody who doesn't have gzip installed shouldn't be annoyed
by an error message when the converter cannot find gzip.

You are welcome.
