BTW, this thread is not exactly on topic, since it isn't specific to djgpp, but
anyway...

If you have any programming experience at all, I recommend the classic book by
Kernighan & Ritchie, _The C Programming Language_, for its clarity and brevity.
 It's a gem.

If you want to get a great online tutorial for pointers and variables in
general, there is such a one written by Ted Jensen at:
