What you describe here is a bug in GCC 2.7.2, and only in the C++ 
compiler (cc1plus.exe).  2.7.2.1 does not have this bug, and even 2.7.2 
didn't have it in the C compiler.

This is all described in the FAQ, btw.  Having people on this forum which 
are kind enough to relate what the FAQ says does not mean you should 
avoid reading the sections to which you are refered.
