I don't understand what sort of things you are wanting this editor to
do. Surely the role of a sprite editor is just to create graphics, so
why can't it save these out in a standard format like .pcx or .bmp?
There are millions of programs for manipulating files of these types,
and Allegro comes with tools (the grabber or dat archiver) that can
easily convert them into an Allegro-specific format for use in your
game.

Of course if you have better ideas about how an editor should work, I'm
sure a lot of people would like to use it after you have finished
implementing it :-)
