Ok, thanks for the help :)
I kinda figured it was the files thing, but the config.sys on my school's
computers are locked via network.  My second implicit question was: is
there someway to change the number of files in dos without modifying the
config.sys?  I'm guessing its a no.  Now I can go pester a system admin
with the knowlege that they're the ones thats preventing my programming
:)
