No, that's not what I meant.  AFAIK, when configured to call `mktemp' for 
each file name, GCC does NOT append any suffix, it uses the generated 
name as is.  That is how GCC 2.7.2.1 works for me.  I assume that GPC can 
be configured that way as well.
