This is a *wild* exaggeration.  Please post any speed measurements
that you can come up with to back up this claim.

I have measured DJGPP performance when compiling programs on 486DX2/66
vs P166, both in plain DOS (no Windows).  The test case was a large
(4000 lines) C program.  The ratio of the compilation times was about
1:4.  I got similar results with other benchmarks where I have run
real-life programs which excercise CPU, memory, and the disk I/O
intensively.

Not ``messed up'', just sub-optimal.
