Did you realize your program isn't C it is C++?  That might make a small
difference.  For example, my configuration won't compile C++ unless I
tell it that it is C++ (using g++ or gpp or gxx instead of gcc, you can
also do gcc if you do -lstdcxx at the end of the line).
