At first take a look to the FAQ, you'll find usefull hints to optimize your 
machine for compiling with djgpp.
But if you are using a 386SX 25MHz with 2Mb of RAM nothing will really help gcc 
needs more RAM to run decently. Even if you have an hyper-machine you never 
will get the same speed as TC, but you'll get a much better code generated.
