IMHO, you probably need 2.8.0 only in the following circumstances:

* You have noticed bugs in 2.7.2.1 that bother you.
* You use C++ and need decent exceptions support.
* You are obsessed with optimization (IIRC 2.8 has a better instruction
timing table)
* You are a heatseeker who always needs to upgrade everything :)
