This should be correct, as long as you confirm that the environment
variable is actually being set; i.e., type "set" at the DOS prompt...

You should not modify this file unless you know exactly what you are
doing.  Specifically, you should NEVER change the line that sets DJDIR
unless you manually move 'djgpp.env' to a different directory...

If your tree is under C:\GPP\DJGPP, shouldn't this be C:\GPP\DJGPP\BIN?

This is incorrect.  DJGPP cannot produce 16-bit applications.

It should run as-is on any PC platform.  There are some memory issues
under 95/NT that can cause improper behavior, but that's not strictly
relevant to compilation.  To get long filenames under Windows 95 (not
NT), SET LFN=Y in your environment.

DJGPP Frequently Asked Question list (v2/faq210b.zip or online at
http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/v2faq/) specifically mentions this issue in
chapter 8.1, and further in chapter 8.2.
