OK, here now my results:

I have DOS-window under Windows 95 opened where I'm runng the Norton
Commander.
Additionally I have Norton's syswatch running, which shows me the opened
filehandles. Now, when doing nothing there are 6 handles opened. Then I
start RHIDE on a simple project -> 5 handles are opened!!! Yes I get
one more free handle than loosing one when starting RHIDE!!!

Now I run the program (which has a getch()) and 6 handles are opened.
This
is normal because I have set in the preferences to redirect stderr to
file.
If I disable this, there also only 5 handles opened.

So, please can you tell my where you get the loose of about 5 handles?

Robert
