You are right, this is one of the examples what happens when you
answer questions from the back of (my ;-) mind. 
It works if you include <strclass.h>, which in turn  includes
<_string.h> and adds a typedef. I think strclass.h is better than
{S|_s}tring.h, because it has only lower case letters and should be
slightly more portable.
