AFAIK, Unix also doesn't allow you to create more handles than the OS can
maintain.  So there's no limitation here that doesn't already exist on 
platforms which supporte REAL sockets.  FILES=40 should be usually enough.

Btw, if you run on Windows 95, you can have 255 handles by default.
