Isn't all this missing the ultimate point??
The guy's *app* was bombing if the DJGPP environment variable was not set.
Not a Gnu program, but the app* he *compiled*. He is probably rather
concerned that users of his software are going to have to set a DJGPP
environment variable just to use his app, making it not especially
user-friendly to install.
