What with only 12 megs memory and all, I'd say it might be low memory.
cc1plus seems to have been written by a lazy programmer who didn't bother
to check the return value from 'malloc' all that often, so it does bizarre
things (hanging, "internal compiler error" and so forth) when it runs out
of mem. (Or, if it uses 'new', it mustn't have a very smart new handler
installed...)
