Allegro IS part of DJGPP, so why would we recommend it instead?  :-)

You cannot write Windows-native code with the standard DJGPP
distribution; it's simply not possible.  However, there is an addon
toolkit named RSXNTDJ which will allow you to create Win32 code, meaning
you can access the Windows GUI and VxD calls, interface with DLLs, etc. 
RSXNT can be downloaded from the v2tk directory of SimTel.  However,
RSXNT is designed under the assumption that you already know something
about Windows programming.  If you are just starting to learn, I'd
recommend getting a book or taking a class on the subject.
