Did I say "make it use the clipboard foolishly"?  I don't think so.  
Making two programs talk through the clipboard doesn't have to overwrite 
the clipboard contents.  The clipboard interface allows to test whether 
the clipboard is in use before you open it.  A wise programmer would use 
that to avoid screwing other users of the clipboard.
