Well, if you've got allegro, take a look at its keyboard handler.  Or
you could look at mine.  There are two versions of it -- the old
standalone version, and a newer (and better) Allegro version.

All the code for mine is in C, so you don't have to wade through
assembly code.  Go to the Coding section of my page to get it.
