I don't know anything about Jed, but I cannot imagine it doesn't have
an option to insert a TAB verbatim.  Most probably, you can tell Jed
whether or not you want the TABs be expanded into spaces, and the
default is set to use spaces (for some reason, some people believe
that this is better).  Just look for that option and turn it off.

In any case, there are better alternatives than using Notepad ;-).
