Although it is not related to Allegro, take a look at Mesa - an
unofficial implementation of OpenGL:

http://ssec.ssec.wisc.edu/~brianp/Mesa.html

I believe this is what was used with Quake.  If you want more
information about OpenGL and its capabilities and documentation, visit
