The fonts aren't specific to any printer. The dvi drivers (dvilj2p is
one of them) call MetaFont (mf.exe) to generate any missing fonts in
the resolution required for your printer device (LJ2P uses 300dpi).
So if the problem exists, it should exist for every device, not just
for LJ2P. Can you verify that the same problem happens for other dvi
drivers, e.g., dvivga or dvips?
If the above is correct, the next question is where did the file you
wre TeX'ing come from and what exactly is the message printed by
MetaFont when it fails to create missing fonts (the message is
appended to the appropriate .log file, so you should have no problem
looking at it and posting it).
The most probable cause of such problems is that the source for the
required font is not part of the minimal texmflib distribution that
was used to prepare the DJGPP port. If that is the problem, you will
have to find the source for that font on one of the CTAN mirrors and
install it on your system.
Since the number of different fonts out there is *huge*, it is not
feasible to include all of them in a general-purpose distribution.
For example, most people don't need the mathematical fonts used to
typeset scientific articles with complex formulae, but if you use
AMSTeX, you will need those fonts. CTAN mirrors usually have them
all, but you should be prepared to download and install them as the
need arises.
Btw, I would be glad if people who are knowledgeable about TeX fonts
would recommend what missing fonts are used a lot and should therefore
be added to the standard distribution. As amazing as it might sound,
I myself know almost nothing about these issues; my experience is
limited to typesetting GNU docs, for which the current distribution is
enough.
