Allegro does support >256 modes.

My site has some early learning 3D stuff.

Check out the dntut.zip, I can't recomend this enough. Made things
understandable I'd been trying to do for years in a week.

BTW comp.graphics.algorithms is a good newsgroup to minitor too, just
don't post any binaries, please. ;->
