You don't have a choice! If you are using DJGPP, you are in 32-bit protected
mode, no questions asked!

Yep, and a fair proportion of your HD space if you need it for virtual
memory :) (up to 128Mb if you are using CWSDPMI)

I suggest reading the FAQ, as it has several sections relating to protected
mode programming that you should read first.
