Sebastien Bistoyman (bistoy AT hotmail DOT com) mentioned that he might
translate the Allegro documentation into French. That was about a month
ago, though, so I don't know if he is still doing it or has gone on to
something more interesting :-) Drop him a note and find out...

It is a warning to the optimiser, telling it that the variable is
sometimes changed by external things like interrupt handlers, so it must
be careful not to do any optimisations that assume the variable will
always contain the same value. Otherwise you can get subtle bugs in code
where a variables is changed by an interrupt handler and then tested by
some other code in your mainline code...
