I think the term "Unix File System" is a misnomer. Any given Unix can have
whatever file system it wants. Linux, for instance, supports about 6
different ones, including some invented specifically for it.
It is true that the FAT file system is very antiquated. On my Linux system
(using e2fs), I notice *much* faster file access (especially for things like
un-tarring) than on DOS.
I haven't been following this thread, so I don't know why you're advocating
people look at the Linux sources unless you want a new file system
implemented under DOS. I'm wondering how many Unix extensions you can add to
DOS before it's easier to switch to Linux and use dosemu.
