A new information about the problem I'm experiencing:

If I run make from within the DJGPP port of Emacs, with Mx compile, I get
the error just reported. However if I do this operation from within the NT
port of Emacs, grc (the RSX resource compiler) runs like a charm and the
example program (s) get built and function with no apparent problems!

I'm puzzled!
