I do appreciate the sober response. I understand your point, it's just
that why even have a newsgroup if the attitude is:

 >I'm not paid to answer questions here, and no one else is either >(if
they are they should tell me how so I can sign up, since it's >something I
do anyway). There is no customer service or >technical support going on
here,
>there's just people who are _of their own free will_ answering >peoples'
questions.

>I personally do not like people telling me that I am doing a bad job of
>something which I have _no obligation to do_,

Then why do it? I answer questions I can on other groups, and the one I
can't I either don;t say anything or offer a friendly word of advice. This
is all I'm saying. I continually see people posting responses to newbie
questions as though the newbie is a lazy and spoiled brat. I just don't
see the need.

> I'm not
>only not being paid to do it, I'm also not being paid to do it nicely.

That still dosen't make it right.

And as far as my job analogy, it was just to point out that people are not
experts right away. It takes time and understanding, not impatience.

But I do thank you for writing back a sensible response.
