I've looked through /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/random.c (which has a very
nice discussion of how to get random numbers out of the entropy pool,
etc). This must be a very good RNG when the comments say that in the
worst case, the output is "merely cryptographically secure." But it's
probably impossible to port to DOS. Too many kernel-specific'isms. I think
a better source (unfortunately I don't have the book handy right now) is
to check in Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming. As I recall, there is
an entire chapter on RNG's.
