There are several ways.  From DOS, you can load the ANSI.SYS driver and
use ANSI escape sequences to change the background color.  In a C
program, you can print ANSI escape sequences for the same effect.  You
can use the conio functions (textcolor, etc) to change the screen
colors.  You can also poke them directly into text video memory (but see
chapter 18 of the FAQ before doing this).
