Subject: Savings diags produced by gcc/g77

When I compile something using g77, I get sometimes a lot of diags which
run out of the screen space, so that I finally get only the last diag,
usually not the real cause of all problems.

Or course I tried to run "f77 .... | more" but it does not stop
scrolling.
In the same way "f77 ... > diags.log" yields nothing, as well as
redirecting 1>xxx.log or 2>zzz.log

Question:

 1. How can I tell f77/gcc to pause after posting one screen of diags?
 2. How can I redirect the diags produced by f77/gcc to a file which I
can examine quietly?

Please answer directly, I'm not on the list. Thanks.
