If they are out of copyright and you are scanning them in
from the originals (unlikely, I should think!) then you
should be OK.  If, however, they are from a book then they
may well be covered by the publisher's or photographer's
copyright.  There should be copyright information in the 
book about that.  Some are also covered by other renewed 
copyrights.

Where did you get the pictures?  That should give some 
indication of who to ask.  Note that copyright practice
is generally different depending on the country; in
particular American copyright is very often different
from European.
