The EXEs are stubbed when you compile.  Your program will check for DPMI,
and if it can't find it will load a specified extender.  

In other words,  no,  you do not have to init it yourself.

Check the docs,  I believe you can change the host in the stub,  it will
use
CWSDPMI by default.
