Not necessarily.  Every DOS box runs in a different virtual machine,
so they are almost independent.

Sorry, I don't see what made you say this.  Did you spawn chkdsk from
withint non-DJGPP program and it also didn't work?

Btw, among the myriad of books on Windows 95 secrets, I've seen one
which explicitly says that Microsoft wants to discourage people from
using chkdsk, they want them to use scandisk instead.  It just might
be that the message we see is part of this effort.  the only thing
that I'd like to know is what exactly do they check to trigger the
message.
