You probably won't like this, but your only recourse is not to call
"install_timer ()" at the beginning of your program and use MIDAS's
mechanism for user timers. This isn't an ideal compromise (you do
lose the ability to use mouse pointers or the GUI) but it does
work.

Alternately, use SEAL! It seems to co-operate much better with 
Allegro. DL it at "http://www.egerter.com".
