Giving a direct answer would remove the incentive for the recipient to
download the FAQ. Besides, looking things up in the FAQ isn't hard at all,
and doesn't take much time. Add to that the fact that Eli probably knows
it like the back of his hand...

Also, the raison d'etre of the FAQ is not to provide stock answers to be
posted here; it is to provide answers to the questions so that they never
get asked here. I'm sure Eli spends a lot of time maintaining it, and it
must get annoying when people don't bother reading it.
